After completion of this session, the participant will be able to:
• Avoid the perioperative factors that contribute to lung injury in thoracic surgery patients. • Provide safe and reliable lung isolation with double-lumen tubes and bronchial blockers. • Manage anesthetic care during esophagectomy and airway surgery, including invasive pulmonology, tracheal resection and tracheal injury repair. • Create an anesthetic plan for management of a patient with a large mediastinal mass. • Apply lung ultrasound for diagnostic purposes. • Provide effective post-thoracotomy pain control when epidural analgesia is contraindicated. • Appraise recent advances in anesthesia for lung transplantation. |
Workshop on Thoracic Anesthesia: Hands On
Monday, December 11, 2023 | 1:00–4:00 PM
Introduction: Brief presentation of the faculty and the workshop set-up.
Hands-on Demonstrations: The workshop will consist of “Hands-on Demonstration” of various stations equipped with fiberoptic bronchoscopes, video cameras, mannequins, lung models, double lumen tubes, endobronchial blockers, and tube exchangers. During the hands-on session, participants will be divided into groups to ensure interaction with the faculty.

Station 1: Left sided DLT
Station 2: Right sided DLT Station 3: Bent Tip Blocker Station 4: Tip Deflecting Endobronchial Blocker Station 5: Snared Endobronchial Blocker Station 6: Double Pronged Endobronchial Blocker Station 7: Camera Embedded Tubes Station 8: Thoracic Epidural Station 9: Paravertebral Block Station 10: Erector Spinae Block Station 11: Pediatric Thoracic Station 12: POCUS in Thoracic Anesthesia |
After completion of this session, the participant will be able to:
• Apply fiberoptic techniques to successfully insert left and right double lumen tubes. • Place endobronchial blockers to provide one lung ventilation. • Provide lung separation in the pediatric patient. • Utilize a specialty laryngoscope to provide lung separation in the patient with a difficult airway. • Perform ultrasound guided paravertebral block and thoracic epidurals. |
